MUSIC MONDAY with KEITH JENKINS

I'm happy to welcome Keith Jenkins to the blog today.  I was first introduced to Keith & his beautiful wife, Wendy, through a mutual friend (Marni) way back when I lived in Chicago.  If memory serves me right, we were watching Pete Yorn at Taste of Chicago - a giant food festival where you can eat until you're sick, and then sprawl on the lawn and watch live music.  Anyway... when I decided I was moving to Columbus, Marni encouraged us to get together.  Since then, the Mr. and I have enjoyed getting to know Keith & Wendy via music festivals, parties, Clippers games, and more.

I'm not sure why it took so long for me to ask Keith to do a playlist for you, because he is quite the music man!  Over the years, we have enjoyed watching Keith's band - The Moving Parts - play on numerous occasions.  And the Mr. and Keith have even started working on some original songs together.

Thanks, Keith!  You can also click here to listen to his playlist in Spotify.

MUSIC MONDAY: CHRISTMAS EDITION

Christmas has always been my favorite holiday.
I'm a total nerd for all things Christmas, including Christmas music...
and I'll be finishing my present wrapping to the playlist below.
I hope you enjoy it.

I'm trying something knew for Music Monday, with the box above.
I'm hoping it will allow you to listen to the playlist directly from here, instead of having to login to Spotify?
You can click here to listen on Spotify if this was a horrible idea and isn't working ;)
Let me know what you think!

MUSIC MONDAY with MARNI + JAMES

I'm happy to welcome my dear friends {and one of my favorite couples}, Marni + James, to the blog today.  Marni + James are both Ohio natives who now live in Brooklyn, and they wear a lot of black.  Below are their individual playlists.  Remember... it's not a competition, guys. {Who are we kidding, of course it is!}

Marni
1.  Ryan Adams // Come Pick Me Up
2.  Jesse Malin // Brooklyn
3.  The Weakerthans // Aside
4.  Regina Spektor // That Time
5.  Ryan Adams // Hotel Chelsea Nights
6.  Heartless Bastards // All This Time
7.  Kings Of Leon // Manhattan
8.  The National // All The Wine
9.  Kings Of Leon // Notion
10.  A.A. Bondy // When The Devil's Loose
11.  Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit // Cigarettes and Wine
12.  The Avett Brothers // I And Love And You
13.  The Damnwells // I Will Keep The Bad Things From You

If Marni seems familiar, it's because she's been a L+R Style Muse {or I suppose there might be numerous other reasons... like you're reading this because you're friends with her}.  If you haven't seen her Style Muse post, you can check it out here.  A little about the playlist theme, from Marni, "The beginning of the list includes songs I saw performed in concerts here in NYC before I lived here.  Others are songs that have played a part in my New York story.  For example, "Hotel Chelsea Nights" is an older song, but represents my decision to finally move to NYC after my visit here when I stayed in the Chelsea Hotel.

Click here to listen to Marni's fabulous playlist.

>>>>   <<<<

James
1.  Ty Segall // Thank God for Sinners
2.  The Men // Animal
3.  Call Of The Wild // Choked Out
4.  Metz // Get Off
5.  Thee Oh Sees // Wax Face
6.  FIDLAR // No Ass
7.  The Orwells // Painted Faces and Long Hair
8.  Dinosaur Jr. // Watch the Corners
9.  Jeff The Brotherhood // Staring At The Wall
10.  Japandroids // The Nights of Wine and Roses
11.  King Tuff // Stranger

Since James hasn't been a Style Muse on L+R before {although he really should be}, which means you're just meeting him, here is a little about the bearded man...  I went to college with him, but we didn't become friends until we both lived in Chicago. He knows more about fashion than me, more about music than I could ever dream to know, and is the biggest Rick Owens fan in the world.  He is a digital producer / project manager in the advertising industry... I sort of know what that means, and I know it is cool.

Click here to listen to James' playlist, consisting of "all tracks that were released this year and will rock your face off."

Thank you, Marni + James!

I'm happy to welcome my good friend, Graham, to the blog today!  A little about this handsome fella I've known since college...
He is an advertising professional by day, and a comedian / writer by night {plus weekends}.  He enjoys comic books + super heroes - and is quite fabulous at drawing them.  He often changes his hair color and style - and it is always the coolest.  He lives in New York City, but has also lived in Chicago {when I did} and Los Angeles.  We bonded over our love for Buffy the Vampire Slayer... then later, Alias.  He has an affinity for the band Garbage, has quite the collection of sunglasses, and if you can't find him dancing - you will most likely find him singing karaoke.

I am loving the playlist Graham created for us.  Listen and enjoy!
Also, you can {and should} click here, here, and here to see Graham's standup.
Thanks, Graham!

The Mr. met Stu when they wrestled in high school, and they later became buddies when they ended up at the same college.  Stu recently moved back to Ohio, after attending law school in Florida, and we're happy to have him closer {he lives in Cincinnati}.  He is a die hard Cleveland sports fanatic, is scared of clowns, and is the #1 consumer of ranch dressing in North America.  Stu was a groomsmen in our wedding, and gifted us with Foo Fighters tickets... which was one of the coolest gifts ever.

Click here to listen to Stu's playlist...  "B. S. - Songs from the Before Stu Era."  Thanks, Stu!

The Mrs. spends a lot of time working on this blog.  In my opinion, too much time.  I know how that sounds, but what I'm saying is that I find myself telling her, "It looks great.  STOP.  It's ready to publish!"  She gets hung up in the details trying to make things perfect each day, and my only wish is that she would allow herself to be satisfied sometimes and not stress about all those pesky little things.

In that very spirit, I decided I would give myself a five minute limit in putting together my 10-song playlist for Music Monday.  I could easily get lost in a Spotify wormhole, much like Molly and her blogging, if I set out to create the playlist of playlists.  Instead, I'm setting an example here.  Pay attention, honey.

Here are 10 good songs.  As much as I want to tell you all about why I chose them, I won't.

Listen and enjoy...  Music Monday with the Mr.
It's a long way til Friday!

These songs have been the soundtrack to my summer. I realize a few of them might be a bit corny, but I'm not going to pretend I know the cool new band you don't know... because I don't. I'm not that cool. The plan is to have others contribute to this feature in the future! People who can introduce you to those cool new bands you don't know.

MUSIC MONDAY... ON WEDNESDAY

Today at work a song came on my pandora station... a song that took me back to a very special time and place - July 23, 2011 - our wedding day.

The Mr and I really like Ryan Adams. If you read this blog regularly, you've heard me talk about him before. When my friend, Marni, first introduced me to Ryan Adams in my Chicago days... I have to be honest and say I didn't like him. It wasn't until I started dating my hubby a few years later that my love grew {for both the Mr and Ryan}. I think the first time I listened, I didn't really listen. Does that make sense? Well, I would venture to say I adore his music so much now that I am somewhat personally offended when someone says they don't like him; I have a few friends who would agree with that statement.

It only made sense for the Mr and I to choose a Ryan Adams song for our first dance as a married couple. We chose "When the Stars Go Blue"... you can have a listen via this you tube video. I hope if you haven't heard this song, you like it. And if you don't like, I don't want to know. Just kidding {sort of}.

I would love to hear what you chose for your wedding song... or what song truly moves you and makes you think. What song takes you back to another time and place... a specific moment in your life?

My Mr posted a blog on his page a few days ago. It's a very cool story about a long lost guitar, and you can read it here if you'd like. Have a wonderful day, friends. I'm looking forward to my first Pilates class tonight! I'll let you know how it goes.
