THEN... AND NOW.

Sorry I've been completely MIA!  I had one of those crazy weeks at work where you don't have time to check your email or respond to a voicemail.  We've all had them, so I'm not complaning.  Merely explaining my absence.  Thanks so much to all of you who told me you missed L+R, and reached out.  It was so appreciated!

Today my beautiful mom is celebrating her birthday!  So, this morning I was trying to think of a picture I could share alongside these words, and lo and behold - both of these pics are on our fridge.  Besides my sister, Kate, and I being flipped - it's pretty much the same picture... give or take 30 years (and the beers).

Mom, wishing you the happiest of birthdays. We are all so very lucky and blessed.  The best friend and mom two girls could ask for.  Love you to the moon and back.

BIRTHDAY FISH

Happy Birthday to my amazing husband!

Today, he works all day and has class all night (boo!), so we celebrated an evening early by going to one of his favorite places for dinner (Surly Girl).  The Mr. ordered one of those meals they serve in a school lunch tray.  Not only do you get a cupcake, but you also get a toy, or some other sort of gadget like the kind in Cracker Jack boxes.  Tonight he got the Fortune Teller Fish...

...and the fish says my hubby is jealous and fickel (lying fish).

Happy Birthday to my funny, intelligent, loyal, thoughtful, talented, handsome husband - Israel.
I love you more than words can say.

HAPPY WEEKEND

Hello there,  I hope you all had a wonderful week.  My first week at the new job... and I want to thank you in advance for sticking with me until I figure out how to make time for Lovely + Rust!  Blogging is really not something I intend to stop doing, but I am realizing my free time is going to be pretty limited, so I'll do my best to keep this space updated. You can sign up for email updates on the right sidebar, and you will receive an email when I post something new.

Yesterday was my birthday, and I came home to the table set for dinner (cooked by the Mr.) and wine on the table.  He gave me a gift card for an hour long massage, and the sweetest card I've ever received.  I've only had a massage once before, and it was about eight or nine years ago.  Needless to say I'm pretty excited!

Thanks to all of my friends for the texts, voice messages, and facebook posts... and thank you, Daisy May dog for my picture messages (and thanks to her momma, Nicole!  Photoshop skills of a professional).

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

HAPPY BLOG BIRTHDAY

Yesterday, October 7th, marked one year since I started Lovely + Rust.
Happy Birthday, little blog.

I started L + R because I needed a creative outlet, and wanted to be a part of something bigger... to put something creative out there... to have something to work on and work toward.  Thank you all so much for reading, for your comments, and for your support.  It means oh-so much to me.

It's only fitting that today, one year after I started the blog, the Etsy shop - Lovely + Rust Vintage - is open for business!  This is something I have wanted to do since my Chicago years, and I'm pretty excited to finally give it my best shot.  You'll notice there is not a lot up right now.  Man, it's a lot of work to take pictures, type descriptions, take measurements, and get all of that on Etsy.  Whew!  I promise there is more to come this week {even later today}, and my mom and I will be doing our absolute best to keep it as stocked as possible going forward.

CONGRATULATIONS, MR. MARTIN

I have a secret.
I wanted to spill the beans yesterday, but the Mr. wouldn't let me.
He had a few people to tell first...
plus he doesn't like it when I brag about him, but I can't help it.
We have some celebrating to do around here this weekend...
Mr. Martin was accepted into the {very competitive} PhD program!
I am oh-so proud.

BIRTHDAY BOY

Hey there birthday boy, I am so lucky to call you my husband.
And you are so handsome.

We've enjoyed our long weekend in New York - eating too much amazing food, shopping, and spending quality time with friends. Headed to the airport soon... Isn't it a wonderful feeling to crawl into your own bed after being away? Our cat, Bailey, our little apartment, and our bed await. Thank you M + J... always the hosts with the most!

POST BIRTHDAY PINTEREST POST

Thank you a million times over for the birthday wishes yesterday. It was *such a wonderful day, that began the previous evening with a lemon cake from my Mr. and concluded with a movie {Midnight in Paris} which ended precisely as my birthday did, at the stroke of midnight. There was a lot in the middle: a red velvet cake + this gold wishbone from my sweet friend at work... a beautiful bouquet from the Mr... dinner + wine + conversation with some of my closest friends... and all of your birthday wishes! It's worth repeating... *such a wonderful day.

Lately I find myself spending a bit too much time on pinterest. I so easily get sucked in and lose myself amidst the inspiring images. Below are just a few that have found their way to my "home" board.

THEY SAY IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY {NAH NAH NA NAH NA}

Today is my birthday.
I think 33 is going to be a good age + good year.
My first birthday as a Mrs.
I also like the way 33 sounds + looks much better than 31 or 32.
There is something to be said for it's symmetry.

Yesterday I emailed the Mr. this recipe {I found on pinterest} with a little blurb like,
"wish we had time to make this for my birthday"... or something to that effect.
I had absolutely no delusions of that actually occurring...
so I was beyond surprised after dinner...
when my amazing husband unveiled my very own lemon cake with cream cheese frosting.

How lucky am I? I know... pretty lucky.

HEY KATIE, IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY...TODAY!

Today is this pretty lady's 34th birthday!

When I sat down to write this post, I thought of all the amazing photos I wish I could share. Unfortunately most of my favorite old photos are at home in my parents' albums {except for these few below, and this}. Those favorites include, but are not limited to, the following: both of us wearing my Mom's fabulous 70's boots that came up to our thighs, with my Dad's hats and hunting vests... the perfectly timed photo right after I pushed her down in the kiddie pool... building snow forts... holding hands while we watched a parade... wading into Lake Erie with my Dad, jeans rolled up to his knees...
We were the very best of friends and that has only grown stronger with our old age. We are getting so old, sister!

My Mr and my sister are like peas in a pod. It makes me love him even more to know he loves her like she was his own. I love how close they are... until they gang up on me, which tends to happen frequently now that I think of it...*Ahem*

We like to be silly and do senior pictures poses in front of the tree on Christmas Eve...
{circa 2010 and 2008?}

I could go on and on about how amazing she is... the fabulous food she cooks, how funny she is, how when she laughs it makes you laugh, how she is the most generous person I know... how much she has been there for me over the years, like my rock... her beautiful eyes, big smile, and bigger heart. I could go on and on, but I won't. Because sister doesn't like it when I'm mushy. She does love it when I throw myself at her, hug her and won't let go. Right, Kate?

My birthday post has to end with this. Can you believe they still make these, sis? I didn't have time to order the cd, so just imagine he is saying, KATIE! {We need to find that old record}

I love you so very much, K. I am the luckiest little sister in the world.

xoxo, M and Captain Zoom
