SOCIETY 6: KRIS TATE

I used to think Society 6 was the name of Urban Outfitters Print Shop.  I was wrong.  Society 6 is an "International artist community representing more than 70 countries worldwide."  Where my confusion came in?  Urban has a collaboration with Society 6; they basically sort the thousands of prints to bring you a curated selection of their favorites - available on the Urban website.  You can browse all of them on the Society 6 website, or if you have a hard time making decisions - visit UO Print Shop since they've narrowed it down / done the work for you.  Once you've found a design, you can order an art print, an iphone case, a t-shirt, a tote, etc.  My iPhone case is a Society 6 print, and I love it.

Whew!  Now that I'm done rambling...  One of my favorite artists on the Society 6 page right now is Kris Tate.  {I came across her images when I was trying to find a buffalo or stag print for above our bed.}  I love the way she mixes nature and wild animals with neon and graphic patterns.  The juxtaposition is really unique.

Lately I have a new mini obsession with screen printed items... totes, tea towels, napkins, and so on. In the last six months I have purchased this tote from Fieldguided, these pillowcases from Kin Ship Press, and a few other little items here and there. I like supporting small shops, and artists... and I love the clean look of the organic cottons and linen. 

I imagine myself with that carrot printed tote, headed to the farmers market for fresh produce and flowers. And aren't these tattooed lady napkins just so fun?!

SKIPPING ROCK FARM

This week I spent one wonderful night here, at Skipping Rock Farm. My evening passed sitting in one of those chairs, drinking wine, and having wonderful conversations with three artistic, lovely ladies {a milliner, a photographer, and a fashion designer}. Inspired... that's the word.

Skipping Rock Farm is the magical home of the Hamiltons. I had the pleasure of working with Amy Hamilton a while back when I styled a fashion show featuring her beautiful handmade hats. Amy is a talented millinery designer {Granville Millinery Company}, and her husband, Paul, is a professional painter {You can find his work at Hammond Harkins Galleries}. They both have amazing studios on the property... Amy's - a converted horse barn. I don't want to give too much away, or post any more of the photos I took, because their home is going to be featured on Design Sponge this Monday! Yay, Amy!

So I am very happy to have found the source...

Maris Redondo does the most beautiful paintings inspired by nature. 

My personal favorites are her paintings of feathers. 

She sells them in her Etsy shop - River Luna, and even the packaging is beautiful.

ART APPRECIATION

Just a little wishful thinking this Tuesday.

WISHBONE

I don't remember how it began, because it goes back as long as I can remember. Each year at Thanksgiving my Mom set the turkey wishbone aside to dry out. A few days {or weeks} later my sister and I would pull it apart and make a wish. Whoever got the biggest part of the wishbone got her wish.

And all of this past tense is really incorrect because we still do it to this day.

This year... at Christmas... I won!

Over the years we have both acquired wishbone necklaces. They have a very special meaning to us. Sisters... two halves of a whole. I think my next wishbone necklace needs to be this Georgia Varidakis lucky bones necklace.
My good friend, M, spotted it when we were at the Artists and Fleas market in Brooklyn {thanks, lady!}. I grabbed one of the artist's postcards {for contact info} just in case someone loved me enough to order it for me. Anyone?
